Community Artist

Natasha Lowe - Artist Bio

Tasmanian based Artist Natasha Lowe has been refining her installation skills with the help of children and young people. Originally Natasha studied black and white film photography at UTAS, then completed a Diploma in Education in Lismore NSW. Working as a District School Art Teacher since 2001, Natasha developed skills in a broad range of visual art mediums to meet the needs of young people from Kindergarten to year twelve. In 2007 Natasha and her partner Simon Holmes started their own creative art based business, "Big Shed Studios" where they worked on creative commissions in the community as well as providing a creative art venue.

Being emersed in her regional home town St Helens, community based artworks and installations was natural evolution from teaching. Conceptualising an idea and building a scaffold for the community to contribute too has been her main art practice. The environment is important to Natasha, she works with environmentally conscious materials, natural and upcycled materials and her themes bring awareness to environmental issues. "Working on community projects with others creates diaglog and connects community. Children and young people push projects way further than my creative mind can ever conceive. Its inspiring".
